Final Reflective Letter (A Survey)
Through my English Composition class this semester, I feel that I have taken several important steps towards in the evolution of my writing. Even from the smallest of assignments: the journals. These journals were short written assignments about my observations of things around me and expanding my writing horizons. Being of a focused nature, these journals made me look at specific styles and objects. The class itself was fairly relaxed in nature, our only graded assignments were written outside of class. Discussion, I found, always led to a better understanding of a great many different aspects of the writing process. The discussions always pertained to a given reading furthermore driving home whatever point we were being taught. On a few occasions we had the opportunity to read the works of our classmates and give feedback. This process I found was not very helpful as I get most of my revisions through my own proofreading. Blogging was another form of writing that we were to do. The merit of these blogs lay solely in the fact that it was a different form of writing. Our style had to adapt to a different environment which was helpful to hone my writing skills as a whole. The final research paper was nothing new for me having been exposed to the process on several occasions before. It was however a good way of practicing what I already had learned. Through this class I feel as though I have simply gained a more well-rounded education within the context of writing. The area where I am most lacking still is in the analysis of others’ works. Creating my portfolio this year has been a good experience. It has helped give me a better understanding of different styles of writing. It was harder for me to make it look fancy but it I liked the details of creating a website that is appealing to the reader. I feel that my future writing will be ever changed because of what I have learned in this class.
